Okaijesan Clocks 55 On The Throne

Alhaji W. O. Momodu II, JP, CON, the Ojirrua of Irrua kingdom, and the Okaijesan of Esanland, a primus inter pares, first among equals, of the Enigie of Esanland, who ascended the throne of his ancestors on the 23rd of June 1971, is 55 years on the throne.

The Ojirrua, whose distinction, wisdom, and leadership set him apart has no doubt contributed to the development of Irrua kingdom in particular, and Esanland in general.


In the past 55 years of his reign, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, a native of Idumebo Community in Irrua kingdom, rose to become the number two man in Nigeria. One of the legacies, amongst others, that  Admiral Aikhomu left, is the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, ISTH. Which he facilitated to Irrua kingdom, Esanland and Edo state.


Again, the current Governor of Edo state, His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, hails from Udomi, in Esan Central Local Government Area. Today, we are all witness to the way Irrua, Esanland and indeed Edo state is seeing a new dawn of good roads, creation of employment and others.


In 2024, just after the inauguration of Governor Monday Okpebholo as governor of Edo State I had an exclusive chat with the Okaijesan, which I reported in Esan Magazine online in September 25, 2024. In that story, the Ojirrua urged all the people of Edo State to embrace peace, to enable the state to develop, hence recover our lost glory. This is the peaceful nature of Alhaji W. O Momodu.


Again, five years ago, during the 50th anniversary of his coronation as the Ojirrua of Irrua kingdom, and Okaijesan of Esanland, he explained that, longevity is what only God can give, adding that; "... even though, certain human habits can negatively affect human beings, yet, only Allah has the final say".


The 55th anniversary of the coronation of Alhaji W. O Momodu II, JP, CON, as the Ojirrua of Irrua kingdom, and the Okaijesan of Esanland, will hold on Saturday, 27th of June 2026.


As the celebration holds, the entire members of Esan Magazine wish the Ojirrua, and Okaijesan of Esanland more wisdom in leading the people of Irrua kingdom, and Esanland.
