ECLG Boss, Chairs Security Meeting

As security challenges rises across the country, the Chairman, Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere, today, Thursday 11th June 2026, convened a meeting of all the security outfits operating in Esan Central Local Government Area, as well as other stakeholders, to deliberate on proactive measures in securing our schools, other institutions and environment.

Speaking during the meeting Hon. Iyere who welcomed the attendees harped on the need for all the security operatives to beef up their activities more than ever before, especially going by the current security challenges being experienced in the neighboring states in particular, and in the country at large.


The head teachers of the different Private and Public schools, used the opportunity to enumerate the areas where they need intervention and support in the protection of properties and facilities of the schools, as hoodlums have been vandalizing school facilities especially after closing hours.


The Chairman who promised to work out a modality whereby watchmen will be employed to watch over school facilities after school hours, advised the head of schools to always liance with security agencies especially the Police and the National Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in promptly reporting suspicious movements of persons and activities, also advised the members of the public to always report suspicious movements, happenings and activities to the law enforcement agencies instead of taking videos of such activities, saying; "our collective security, is the responsibility of everyone; and if you see something say something". 


"This way, we will be able to keep the evil ones at bay".


The meeting held in the conference hall of the local government Secretariat, and had in attendance, the Irrua Divisional Police Officer, DPO, CSP Ibrahim Abdullahi, Usman Momodu, the Irrua Police Area Commander, ACC Imhangbe Joseph, the NSCDC Area Commander, Mr. Inegbedion Christopher, and the NSCDC, Irrua Divisional Commander, Mrs. Josephine Imhangbe, Edo State Security Corps, ESSC, Sector I Commander and Isa D. Umar, of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. Others include the Officers-In-Charge of the Directorate of Security Services, DSS, Immigration, SIB, amongst others.


Other stakeholders present, include, heads of Public and Private Schools, High Chief Umane Francis, who represented the Ojirrua of Irrua, HRH,  S.I Obade, the Onojie of Ugbegun, HRH, O Ehigie, the Onojie of Opoji, Bishop Tim Okojie, Esan Central CAN Chairman, Mallam M.D Musa, Irrua Chief Imam amongst others.

The Secretary to Esan Central Local Government Area, Pastor Davies Oigbochie, the Head of Local Government Administration, HoLGA, Barr. Gladys Edoigiawerie, Esq, the Director of General Services, DAGS, Mrs. Lydia Ebhodaghe and the Director of Legal Services of the local government, Odion Princewill Theodora, were also present.
