Uzea Is Not Marginalized By Uromi
...Uzea needs self reflection -Bishop
By: Oriaifoh Godwins
The narrative that has been making the rounds that the people of Uromi in Esan North East local government area of Edo state, has over the years, been marginalising, the Uzea people, has been criticized on the ground that the Uzea people needs synergy, love, unity and alliance with a shepherd often known in the political circle as a 'leader', to be able to attract political positions and other dividends of democracy to Uzea land.
The above opinion, was expressed by a politically active Clergy, Bishop Solomon Oriaifoh, the General Overseer of Ascending Tarbanacle Worldwide, Benin city.
According to Bishop Oriaifoh; "...what we the Uzeans need to do, is self reflection...why are we being marginalised"?
"...for me, I see that we are not being marginalised, after interrogating the process. I discovered that we have some internal wranglings amongst us".
Continuing, Bishop Oriaifoh who explained that when Chief Jacob Okojie (Sir Idegbe) was leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Uzea, some people did not accept him as the leader, also added that, the same thing is playing out today, under the leadership of Hon. Chief Robert Okoinemen; "You cannot progress in Politics if you don't have a leader". He said.
Bishop Solomon Oriaifoh, who pointed out that, no Uzea person has ever been elected as a Chairman or a House of Assembly member, to represent the constituency, added that, those that say Uzea are being marginalized by the Uromi people, definitely have their reasons. He however emphasised that; "politics, as I see it, is a game of visibility, interest, financial power and numerical power", saying, Uromi has all these over and above Uzea.
Speaking on the evidence of disunity amongst the people of Uzea, Bishop Oriaifoh recalled that, when Hon. Robert Okoinemen was removed from office as the acting Chairman of Esan North East Local Government Area, after staying in office for only 3 months, some Uzea people celebrated it, "...it is just Uzea versus Uzea". He said.
Finally, Bishop Oriaifoh who appealed to all Uzea people, to come together as one, also thanked the governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for remembering the people of Uzea, and extending some dividends of his administration to the people, while also appreciating the governor in anticipation of more to come.
