Reviving Uromi Cassava Plant Will Boost Job Creation, Manufacturing In Edo Central.

Exactly two years ago, in April 2023, a company headed by one Dr. Mike Iseghohi, a native of Uromi, in Esan North East Local Government, ENELG, area of Edo state, partnered with Edo State Government to take over the Uromi Cassavita factory.

What exactly is the situation of the factory today? does anyone have detail information about that Uromi Cassava Plant? whether it is functioning at all, and what the present situation is?

Some people have suggested that it should be brought to the attention of Governor Monday Okpebholo, so the factory can be brought back to life. According to stakeholders, Uromi Cassavita factory, is considered a key "quick win" project for Edo State to diversify its economy and create jobs.

I want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of Edo State Government to this viable project, as it will create employment for our youths as well as boost economic growth and Edo State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Edo state Government, is no doubt passionate about creating jobs for the youth, and also making life convenient for the people. Part of the way forward to achieving this, is to bring back to life, some of the viable, but moribound government enterprises. Enterprises like the Uromi Cassavita, can go a long way in creating quality values, if proper attention is given to it.

The Uromi Cassavita Factory is an industrial project in Edo State, Nigeria, established in 2002 to process cassava into starch, aimed at boosting local agriculture and creating over 350 jobs. Though frequently cited as a moribund or "white elephant" project, various state administrations have promised its revival, with recent efforts involving public-private partnerships, such as with M-Hiver Nig Ltd, to render it operational.

  1. The cassavita plant is now a private enterprise. I can tell you authoritatively that m Hiver is working relentlessly to make the plant operational. The biggest challenge facing the project now is the spate of insecurity in the area.
