Onobun Rejects Premature Endorsements

Onobun Rejects Premature Endorsements of APC Aspirant

By: Our Reporter

Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, the Member representing Esan West/Esan Central/Igueben Federal constituency, who is also an aspirant for the upcoming House of representatives election under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected in its entirety, the endorsements of his competitor in the APC Primaries coming up next month.

Rt. Hon. Onobun made this condemnation in a Press statement made available to Esan Magazine,  captioned: "REJECTION OF PREMATURE ENDORSEMENT" dated: 8th May, 2026, and signed by: Rt. Honourable Marcus I. Onobun KSC.

The Press statement reads in part; "My attention has been drawn to the circulating reports of a purported endorsement of an aspirant ahead of the forthcoming party primaries. While I hold the leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the highest regard, I wish to state unequivocally that such an action is premature, unnecessary, and democratically unacceptable".

The development, the statement continued, must be addressed and corrected for the following reasons:

1. Commitment to Democratic Fairness: The national and state leadership of the APC has consistently assured all aspirants and party faithful of a transparent, credible, and level playing field throughout this electoral cycle. Any attempt to short-circuit this process contradicts the progressive ideals of our party.

2. Procedural Anomaly: We, the aspirants, have only just obtained and submitted our nomination forms to the APC National Secretariat, with the official screening process scheduled to commence tomorrow. Attempting to impose an endorsement before the screening and primary elections even take place is a clear violation of due process.

3. Baseless Name-Dropping: The claim by certain leaders that this purported endorsement was executed on the instruction of the Executive Governor is false, misleading, and entirely baseless. The Governor is a true democrat who respects the rule of law and the will of the people; he would not authorize the subversion of a democratic process.

Rt. Hon. Onobun went on in the statement, to stress that; "if this contest is truly about popularity, grassroots acceptance, and political weight, the ultimate acid test is simple: let all aspirants walk freely through the streets of Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben. The people will openly and organically identify who truly commands their confidence and support".

Hon. Onobun urged his teeming supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and focused. Saying; "We will not be distracted. We will continue our constructive engagements with critical stakeholders of our great party and the Governor; fully trusting that unity, fairness, and justice will prevail".

With this rejection, by Hon. Marcus Onobun, of the purported endorsement stories of an APC aspirant currently making the rounds, the end is still far from being reached with respect to the upcoming APC Primaries in Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal constituency.
