Esan Central Witnessing a New Era of Grassroots Development Under Rt. Hon. Iyere

By: Oriaifoh Godwins

Within barely eighteen months in office, the Executive Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Area, Edo state, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere has continued to distinguish himself through purposeful leadership, pragmatic governance, and people-oriented administration that many residents now describe as unprecedented in the history of the council.

At a time when many local government administrations across the country struggle to deliver visible and impactful projects, the Esan Central Chairman has demonstrated that committed leadership at the grassroots level can still transform communities and improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

From Education to Healthcare, Rural infrastructure, Commerce, and Public utilities, the administration has embarked on, and completed several landmark projects across the local government area, even as a number of other projects are still ongoing, thus earning commendations from residents, stakeholders, and community leaders.

Among the numerous projects already executed is the construction of a modern block of six classrooms at Eguare Primary School, Opoji; completed with a Headmaster’s office, functional toilet facilities, and an overhead water reservoir. This intervention has significantly improved the learning environment for pupils and teachers, replacing years of inadequate and obsolete  infrastructure with a conducive atmosphere for education.

Similarly, Rt. Hon. Iyere constructed a perimeter fence and security post at Agua Primary School, a project aimed at improving the safety and security of pupils, staff, and school property. The project has helped restore confidence among parents and education stakeholders in the safety of the school environment.

In the area of Economic empowerment and Commercial development, the Chairman also facilitated the construction of 50 lock-up stores at Eguare Market, Irrua. These stores are currently in use, and they are expected to boost local commerce, create opportunities for small and medium-scale businesses, and improve internally generated economic activities within the local government.

The healthcare sector has equally received significant attention under the present administration. The remodeling of the Eidenu Health Centre, alongside the construction of resident doctors’ and nurses’ lodges as well as perimeter fencing around the facility, stands as a major milestone in the council’s effort to improve Healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

The upgraded facility is already enhancing access to quality medical services for residents while also providing improved accommodation for health personnel.

Education infrastructure development has remained a recurring priority of the administration. Hence, at Ujabhole Primary School, the Chairman approved and executed the construction of a block of three classrooms to ease overcrowding and create a more conducive teaching and learning environment for pupils, even as the construction of a perimeter fencing of the Ugbokhare Primary school, was also undertaken.

In Eidenu community, the administration undertook the replacement of dilapidated concrete electric poles, addressing a longstanding public safety concern while improving electricity infrastructure within the area. Residents have praised the intervention as timely and necessary.

Another notable achievement of Rt. Hon. Iyere, within this short period he has been in office, is the construction of a staff quarters at Ibhiolulu Primary School, a project designed to improve teachers’ welfare and encourage effective service delivery within the school system.

Also, a block of six classrooms was recently completed for Idughele Primary School, Ewu.

These projects, among others, clearly reflect a leadership that understands the needs of the people and is determined to pursue sustainable grassroots development rather than mere political rhetoric.

It is therefore not surprising that Rt. Hon. Iyere's growing popularity and achievements have attracted criticism from some of his distractors.

However, observers have noted that genuine development often unsettles those who benefit from stagnation, misinformation, personal benefits, commonly refered to as stomach infrastructure, and divisive politics.

While constructive criticism remains an essential component of democracy, deliberate attempts to discredit visible achievements and mislead the public should be discouraged.

The people of Esan Central can clearly see the transformation taking place across communities, schools, healthcare facilities, and public infrastructure.

Rather than engaging in baseless antagonism, critics and political opponents are encouraged to place the overall interest of Esan Central above personal or partisan considerations.

Development should never be politicized when it directly benefits the people.

As the administration continues to record milestones within a relatively short period, many residents remain optimistic that the Chairman’s vision for a more developed, secure, and progressive Esan Central Local Government Area is steadily becoming a reality.
