Following the conduct of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Primary elections for the upcoming local government Chairmanship election, that held across Edo state recently, Chairmanship candidates has emerged in all the five local government areas in Edo Central, to contest for the local government election; even as all the Wards have identified their respective Councillors for the election.
In Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, area, Hon. Prince Abdulahi Momodu, aka Superlee emerged as the APC Chairmanship candidate. The position, was earlier contested for by aspirants from different Wards in the local government area; however, aspirants were eventually pruned down, when the leadership of the party in the local government area zoned the position to only Wards 5 and 6 of the local government. However, further alignments and concessions eventually made the cap to fall or the head of Prince Abdullah Momodu, of Ward 6, who as we speak, has begin to make strategic alignments with critical stakeholders to take the local government area to a higher level; especially bearing in mind that he is to Chairman the local government area where the governor of Edo state, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo hails from.
Also, in Esan West local government area, the current Acting Chairman, Hon. Albert Ebhodaghe, emerged as the candidate of the APC in the local government, even after a number of persons in the same party,APC, had initially aspired to same position before critical alignments and compensations were made, which created a leeway for Hon. Ebhodaghe to emerge as the APC candidate in Esan West local government area. Just like it is in Esan Central, the Vice Chairmanship candidate, is yet to be identified.
In Igueben local government area, Hon. Engr. Endurance Azamegbe, aka Paragon, is the All Progressives Congress Chairmanship Candidate, after a number of alignments and the concessions were made. While in Esan North East and Esan South East local government areas, the story is much similar, and slightly different from what obtained in the other local government areas in Edo Central.
In Esan North East Local Government Area, for example, the candidacy of Hon. Prince Saturday Iyoha, was initially frowned at by some persons, but was eventually resolved. One of the resolutions, may have been the emergence, as Vice Chairman, of Honourable Raphael Ijekhuemen, who hails from Uzea. The wise and Strategic intervention of High Chief Robert Okoinemen, a Super leader in the party, as well as Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa, diffused the rising acrimony in the local government, and the situation has since returned to normal.
Also, in Esan South East local government area, Comrade Tega Patrick Amiegbebhor, who eventually emerged as the APC candidate of the local government, was not a smooth sail, as one other faction of the party, was said to be seriously aggrieved as they were initially in support of another person's emergence as the Chairman.
As at the time of writing this report, only Esan North East local government area, has been able to resolve on who becomes the Vice Chairman, in all the local government areas in Edo Central. All the other local government areas are still aligning and working out concessions on who they will put forward as their Vice Chairman for the forthcoming local government election in Edo state.
Again, apart from the All Progressives Congress, APC, no other party has come up with a candidate for the position of the Chairman of any local government area in Edo Central, neither is any person from any other party aspiring for the position of the Chairman of any local government area; which is tentatively leading to the conclusion that the forth coming 2026 local government election in Edo state, will eventually result to a one-way win, in favour of the All Progressives Congress.
