In a colorful display of talent, teamwork, and youthful energy, Ididigba Primary School, on Friday, 13th March 2026, hosted a vibrant Inter-House Sports Competition that has been widely described as a refreshing development for government-owned primary schools in Edo State.

The event, which brought together eminent personalities, many who are just indigenes of Ididigba, showcased the important role that sports can play in the holistic development of children, and how 'raw' talents can brighten the life of a child.

The school field came alive with excitement as pupils representing different houses competed in a variety of track and field events. Dressed in their distinct House colors, of Pink, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green and White, the young athletes demonstrated determination, discipline, and sportsmanship as they participated in races, relays, and novelty games designed to encourage participation and build confidence.

Sir Louis Ebhodaghe, Yellow House, Dr. Isaac Osagie, Green House, Engr. Alenbata and Blue House, Sir Aikore, were either physically present, or have someone to represent them at the event.

Miss Ehimeh Favour,

One of the outstanding athletes, Miss Ehimeh Favour, a primary 5 pupil, according to her name, found FAVOUR before God, as she was awarded a scholarship that covered her academic pursuits up to the University level, courtesy, Mr. Fidelis Okpebholo, who was present at the event.

Speaking at the event, the Headmistress, Mrs. Erewele Regina Ejisaboluse, who emphasized the importance of sports in education, also maintained that; "...the inter-house sports competition is not only a platform for physical exercise, but also an opportunity for pupils to learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and healthy competition".

Continuing, Mrs. Erewele pointed out that, activities like inter-house sports competitions help to identify hidden talents among pupils, while promoting unity and cooperation within the school community. She noted that such programmes play a vital role in improving students’ physical fitness and overall well-being.

According to the Head mistress; "the school is setting a pace amongst all other public primary schools in Edo state, in that, it now has a computer center built by Prince Emmanuel Oamen Dominic Ebhodaghe, one of the benefactors to the school". The computer centre, she said, is equipped with laptops, and a generator and has an instructor, all at the expence of  Prince Dominic Ebhodaghe, who also promised a prize of a computer to the best primary six pupil in computer studies.

Parents and guests who attended the event praised the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward revitalizing extracurricular activities in public schools. Many expressed hope that similar programmes would be encouraged across other government-owned schools in Edo State.

Teachers at Ididigba Primary School also highlighted the significance of the event, noting that sports activities contribute to a more engaging and balanced learning environment; and by combining academics with physical development, schools can better nurture well-rounded pupils who are confident and motivated to excel.

At the end of the competition, Pink House came first,  Yellow House came second, and Blue House came third.

As the competition ended with the presentation of trophies to winners, and recognition of outstanding performances, the spirit of celebration and achievement was evident among the pupils. For many observers, the event symbolized more than just a sports competition, as it represented a renewed commitment to quality education and student development in Edo State’s public schools.

Indeed, the Ididigba Primary School Inter-House Sports Competition stands as a shining example of how dedication, creativity, and above all, that community support can usher in a new dawn for public education in Edo state.
