Today, Thursday 29th January 2026, the second day to mark the burial ceremony of the late mother of Elder Peter Odianosen Iwelomen, aka Welo, was the lying in state, funeral Mass and final interment of late Princess Asetu Iwelomen Nee Ebhabha.
The Iwelomen matriarch was was brought in a motorcade from the mortuary to her residence in Ivue-Uromi, for lying-in state, before she was taken to St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Ivue-Uromi, for a Funeral Mass in her honour.
At the homily, the officiating Reverend father, Fr. Jonathan Ibeawuchi, began with the song; "...I know there is another fellowship in heaven..." He describe the late Princess Asetu Iwelomen as someone that she knows very well saying she died in Christ, she died in Christ joyously I should knows there is another fellowship in heaven".
Reverend Father Ibeawuchi recalled all the good things she was fond of doing during her lifetime, saying; "...she used every little thing she had to render help".
Continuing the Reverend father also recalled that Princess Asetu Iwelomen, during her lifetime, often book mass for her children and grand children; and that, any day she was not able to attend Mass, she always send her offerings through somebody to come to church and drop it in the offering basket. He added that, she was beautiful inwardly and outwardly.
Finally, Rev. Fr. Ibeawuchi advised the children to do what they can to immortalize the name of their mother in the Church, saying; "Inneh Asetu Iwelomen is no more today, but it lies on you to continue from where she stopped. After the funeral Mass, the body was taken to Ebhoiyi-Uromi, where she was finally committed to Mother earth.
During the final prayer rites by the graveside, emotions ran high. Even though men remained men, the emotions were easily given away by the women, from whose eyes, tears flow uncontrollably.
May the soul of Princess Asetu Iwelomen, Nee Ebhabha, and the souls of all departed, continue to rest in peace.
