Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere, the Chairman of Esan Central local government area of Edo state, has urged school children to emulate professionals in their day-to-day activities as they pursue their career in academics and other endeavours, saying; “this is one way by which your future can be empowered”.
Rt. Hon. Iyere gave this advice during a one-day symposium and mentorship session, in commemoration of the National Dropouts Prevention Campaign 2025, with the theme: “Empowering Future, Sustaining The Promise of Education”, organised by the member representing Esan Central constituency at the Edo state Youth Parliament, that held on Friday, 7th November 2025, at Okaijesan Hall Irrua, Esan central local government area of Edo state.
The Chairman of Esan Central local government area, who was represented by Pastor Davies Oigbochie, the Secretary to the local government, cited examples of Pastor Kumuyi of the Deeper Life Bible Church, who is today known worldwide, because of the fact that he listened to the voice of good reasonings during his childhood days, and today he is an international figure. He also cited examples of Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu and Governor Monday Okpebholo all of who are good examples of people who though, had humble beginnings, but were focused in their academic pursuits.
Finally, the Chairman, commended the convener of the one-day symposium, Hon. Ogbidi, as well as all the teachers that coordinated the children from different schools to attend the programme.
Hon Ogbidi Peace Ofure, the convener of the one-day symposium in his address, pointed out that, the campaign was borne out of a deep conviction that no child should be left behind because of barriers to education. Saying; "Every child deserve the opportunity to dream, to learn, and to thrive".
Continuing, Hon. Ogbidi, who regrets that, millions of children across Nigeria are still out of school, and too many others are at the risk of dropping out, maintained that;
"through this campaign, we are not just raising awareness, we are driving action. Action that mobilizes communities, empowers schools, engages leaders, and inspires young minds to see education as the bridge to their future".
The Chairman of Esan central local government area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Iyere was presented with an award of honour as a special guest of honor at the one-day symposium and mentorship session.
