The Chairman, Management Board, Edo City Transport Services, ECTS, High Chief Robert Okoinemen, has revealed that, the Agency will forthwith, begin to generate revenue for Edo state government, saying; "...the rot, pilfering and sharp practices that hitherto, marred the efficiency of ECTS, hence, it's ability to generate revenue to the Government, cannot continue under my watch. Never".
Chief Okoinemen made this revelation on Tuesday, 30th September 2025, in a chat with some Media men in his office in Benin city.
Emphasising on the urgent need for the Agency to begin to generate revenue for Edo state government, Chief Okoinemen said; "...At the inception of ECTS, when Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was the governor, customers, don’t make payments by cash, there was a cashless payment system that was in place at that time, until that payment system was changed by the previous government".
Continuing, Chief Okoinemen said; “… on my assumption of office on the 2nd of September 2025, I discovered that Edo City Transport Services is not generating revenue to the government of the state, despite the huge sum of money that the Agency receives as subventions from the government, on a monthly basis”.
"...for me, this is appalling, and unacceptable; because, ECTS has been receiving a whooping sum of money, from the state government on a monthly basis, the agency has been incurring huge and questionable overheads; yet, ECTS vehicles are making money from their operations. How do you reconcile all these? Something is seriously amiss here".
Continuing, the ECTS Management Board Chairman, who revealed that, machineries are being put in place to ensure that all the leakages and loopholes are blocked, also added that, ECTS should not be reduced to a white elephant project; saying; "ECTS must generate revenue to Edo State Government. That is the only way I can justify the monthly subventions from the government". He concluded.
