…gets first hand information on projects executed by Chairman

The Chairman Esan central local government area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere On Monday, 20 October 2025, played host to the Senate Committee on States and Local Government when the committee visited the local government area, to get firsthand information on the projects executed by the Chairman.

Explaining the purpose of their visit, Dr. Babatimilehin Muyiwa, the Team Leader of the Committee, Said they are representing the Senate Committee on States and the Local Government Administration, particularly on the inspection and documentation of local government projects and programs which, according to him, the exercise is an annual activity that the committee always embark on.


Explaining further, Dr. Muyiwa pointed out that; "... the Senate Committee on local government, normally host annual Local Government Developments Summit where stakeholders brainstorm on issues pertaining to local government administration in Nigeria and look out ways of how challenges facing local governments can be solved".


Continuing , Dr. Muyiwa said; “… the climax of the summit is usually the Nigeria local government development awards which is a programme put in place to encourage healthy performances amongst the local government councils across the country.


"The Senate Committee believes very strongly that if the Senate honours a local government for doing very well, such a local government is required to do more; because the reward for good work is more work, and the local government that are not able to meet up, are also challenged to work harder".


The Team leader went on to say that the exercise is aimed at strengthening the local government system, both in human capacity and allocation of resources 


The team, however, commended the Chairman for being in the office, even when the time of their visit, was about 4 pm. 


Responding, Rt. Hon. Iyere,  the Chairman, Esan Central local government area, who welcomed the team to the local government area Council, described the idea behind the initiative of the Senate Committee's visit to Esan Central local government area, as a very good approach. He said; “ it makes we the local government Chairmen to buckle up, knowing that there is something like this that will ascertain the level of performance in the future".


The Chairman mentioned a couple of the projects that he has so far executed in less than one year, of his being in office, which the Committee promised to visit and inspect, even as they commended, the Chairman for the massive structure of the market lock-up stores they earlier, visited on the way to the local government council.

Other members of the Senate Committee Team, include, Dr. Samuel O. Above, Dr. Chris M. Orji, and a zonal Coordinator from the state.


Top Esan Central Local Government officials present at the meeting, include the Head of Local Government Administration, HoLGA, Mr. Earnest Erebholo, the Secretary to the local government, Hon. Dcn. Davies Oigbochie, the Director of Works, and the Director of Procurement, amongst others
