The Bishop of the Nigeria Anglican Communion, Bendel Ecclesiastical Provence, Dioceses of Esan, Rt. Reverend Gabriel Elabor Osa, JP, has charged the government of Edo state to look inward to fix Esan land, and Edo state with fairness and merit; and should not be guided by parochial interests.
The Bishop said this in his message to Edo state during the celebration of the second session of the 8th Synod that held on Saturday, 25 October 2025 at Saint Mark Anglican Church, Ujoelen Ekpoma.
Speaking, Bishop Elabor who sincerely thanked His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo state, for his support for Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, for appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor for the University, also frowned at the anomalies reported in the selection process of the Registrar of the University, where the candidate that came first in the interview was dropped because; “both the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar, cannot come from Esan”. The Bishop described this phenomenon as “deeply disheartening”, saying; “ When a particular senatorial zone once took all the major positions under the policy of SIT, where were those that are now complaining”?
“We call on you to look inward, fix Esan, fix Edo state. Fairness, merit, not parochial interests must guide appointments”.
Continuing, the Anglican Bishop said; “The Church issue strong warning to those toying with the wealth of Edo central, those that siphon federal allocations, only to offer wheelbarrows as empowerments, should note that God will judge you”.
“Traditional rulers must restore dignity to the throne and endorsing every new government, with the claim that they are chosen by the ancestors, only to reject same, months later, is abnormal. So do ancestors now appoint and reject leaders? Stop this stomach infrastructure, the throne must stand for truth, justice and integrity. When Royal Fathers speak, they speak with authority, and whatever they say, it is believed that the ancestors has spoken. We should return to that era”.
