“Today we are empowering 50 Nano and small scale business owners with direct financial support of 50,000 naira each”.

With the above statement, Hon. George Washington Egbele, the Councillor representing Ward 5, and the Majority Leader, in Esan central local government area Legislative Council, began his speech in the employment programme, sponsored by Egbele George Washington foundation.

The Nano and Small businesses empowerment programme, held today, Thursday 24th July 2025 at Bello Event centre, by Okaijesan Hall, in Irrua, Esan central local government area of Edo state.

Speaking, Hon. Washington said; “…this initiative is borne out of my strong believe that great things start from the bottom up from the market women, the road side artisans, the Okada riders the hairdressers, the youths with dreams, but no capital”.

Speaking briefly on the journey so far, in his business of empowering people, and putting smiles on their faces, he pointed out that his foundation, Egbele  Washington Foundation, few months ago, in partnership with Hon. Joe Ikpea Humanitarian Foundation, enrolled 250 students across Edo Central Senatorial district, for the 2025 JAMB exam, provided Free Medical treatments for people, especially the elderly and vulnerable and distributed books to pupils in Ward 5. These, he said; “….are not political gestures, but acts of love”.

Recalling how he started, Hon. Egbele thanked Hon. Bello Oyaziwolo, who he said was one of his benefactor during his undergraduate days, as he had to struggle his way through life, even as his mother kept encouraging him. He thanked God that, today, he is also able to give back to the society, from the little he has, saying; "it gladdens my heart when I hear the success stories of students who have benefitted one way or the other, from my philanthropist activities, even as my foundation is currently sponsoring two undergraduate Medical students".

Hon. George Egbele Washington, urged the beneficiaries of the grant, to ensure they use it judiciously in a way that it will add to their business and economic status, so they can also in turn, help others in future. Finally, he appreciated the Chairman, Esan Central Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere, his colleagues in the Legislative Arm, as well as all the elders and members of his ward and beyond, that took out time to grace his foundation's empowerment programme.

On his part, Hon. Bello Oyaziwolo, the Ward 5 Leader, hailed Hon. Egbele for his commitment to helping people thus far, saying; “…this is my style of politics. We must thank this Councillor for this initiative as he is identifying that, there are people at the grassroot that must be carried along “.

Also, Hon. Farouk Ehimegbe, who spoke on behalf of Hon. Kelvin Aigbokhan, aka Bossu, another philanthropist, who was supposed to be the guest speaker, but was unavoidably absent, said, Hon. George Egbele Washington is someone who has been passionate about giving back to the society saying; "...even when he was in the University as an undergraduate, he was fond of organizing quiz competitions in schools with the aim of encouraging academics amongst students".

Hon. Julius aka Oba of the Youths, another Philanthropist who graced the occasion, and was described by Hon. Egbele as his "Daddy", supported the empowerment programme with the sum of a million naira, saying; "I see Hon. Washington Egbele George, travelling far in his political journey, with the way he is going".
