Environmental sanitation holds in Esan Central LG
...LG Boss personally supervised exercise.
In line with Edo state governor's directive that every last Saturday of every month should be observed as environmental sanitation day across the state, from the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m, today, Saturday the 31st of May 2025, this month's sanitation exercise was observed in Esan Central local government area, as the chairman of the local government area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere, personally supervised the exercise as he moved around the major areas in the local government area to ensure that residents complied with the governor's directive on the sanitation exercise.
Different units of operation including the Environmental departments of the local government area, the Edo state Environmental Task Force, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, the Mobile court, as well as some heads of departments of the local government council, were on ground to ensure that the exercise was observed.
Commenting on the conduct of the exercise today, the Chairman, of the local government, Rt. Hon. Iyere who expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the exercise, also added that, improvements will be made in future.
In the words of the Chairman; "... personally, I am pleased with the conduct of this month's sanitation exercise, though, a lot of chances are still available for improvements in subsequent months, as It has taken a long time since the sanitation exercise took place. In subsequent months, people will definitely get used to the monthly sanitation exercise".
Continuing, the Chairman said; "...I want to use this opportunity to remind residents of Esan Central local government area, that, the governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, hails from this local government; as such, all hands must be on deck to show good examples to other local government areas at all time, and the sanitation exercise is not an exception in this examplary conduct".
In same vein, the Deputy Head of Department of the Legal unit of the local government council, Barr. Ehizoyanyan Christopher, equally expressed satisfaction over the conduct of this month's sanitation exercise in the local government area, but added that, in future, whatever imperfection that is experienced in this month's exercise, will definitely be rectified in future.
Barrister Ehizoyanyan also revealed that 22 people were convicted and fined for flouting various environmental sanitation laws, including, loitering, driving vehicles and riding bikes, in spite of the fact that movements were supposed to be restricted, amongst others, and they all paid fines that ranged from a thousand to five thousand naira.
It can be recalled that, environmental sanitation exercise, is not a new phenomenon in Esan central local government area, as the chairman has been mobilising human, material and financial resources since January to ensure that the local government is kept clean.
