Children's Day: LG Boss Charges Youth To Advocate For Themselves

Today, Tuesday, 27th May 2025, the Chairman, Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, area, in a speech he delivered during the celebration of this year Children Day, charged the youth to speak for themselves, saying; "...As you are aware, the Federal Government thoughtfully coined the Theme for this year’s celebration as Your Voice Matters: “Speak-Up”...."
The Chairman, who was represented by the Secretary to the local government, SLG, Deacon Davies Ogbochie, continued by saying; "You all will agree with me that it is important, particularly for our Children and Youths, as the future of our beloved country to advocate for themselves and voice out their ideas and opinions constructively. Therefore, our children and youth must be encouraged to know that their voices matter in policies formulation and implementation. It is true that youth are the leaders of tomorrow and it is also true that in the heart of every young person lies the potential for greatness. This can only come to fruition when the youths are given the opportunity to freely express their views on the process of governance".
Rt. Hon. Iyere who charged Parents, Community Leaders, Social Groups, Voluntary and Corporate Organizations, Non-Government Agencies, Religious and Opinion leaders, Traditional rulers, Teachers as well as children to use the opportunity of 2025 children day celebration to reflect on the welfare of our children and youth, adding that; "...This administration will continue to bequeath to our children and indeed future generation, a society that is progressive, caring strong and secured”.
The Local Government Boss also said, his administration shall remain deeply committed to the provision of maximum protection of human rights and provision of qualitative education.
Continuing, the Chairman emphasised that, efforts are being made to ensure that the right policies are put in place to encourage leadership initiatives among the youths with a view to tackling the growing apathy towards civic engagements and political participation.
Rt. Hon. Iyere also used the opportunity to commend the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo for his unwavering commitment to ensuring people-oriented policies, especially in securing lives and properties of the people, provision of infrastructural development, road construction, renovation of schools, improvement in health care facilities and skill acquisition for youth across the state; not excluding Governor Okpebholo's efforts in the recent amendment of the anti-cultism laws with stiffer penalties that has led to significant reduction in cult related violence in the state.
Finally, the Chairman expressed his appreciation to Parents, Teachers, and religious bodies who are saddled with the responsibility of molding the Children and Youth into responsible Adults.
Dignitaries Present at the event, include, HRH, Alhaji W. O. Momodu II, JP, CON, The Ojirrua of Irrua Kingdom, and the Okaijesan of Esanland, represented by High Chief Umane, the Irrua Police Area Commander, represented by CSP Joseph Udeji, while DCP Omoregie Augustine represented the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, and CSC Egogo Johnson, the Divisional Officer of the Civil Defence Corps was also present.
Others include, Ainabebholo Felicia of the National Orientation Agency, Hon Henshaw Elimihele, the Igueben LGEA Secretary and Abieba Desmond, Clerk, Igueben legislative Council amongst several others, were also present to grace the occasion.
