Ambrose Alli University Vice-Chancellor Appointment, Should Not Be Politicised
...all eyes on Governing Council

The interview for the appointment of the substantive Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has since been conducted and concluded, and the Governing Council that conducted the said interview knows the candidates that emerged the best. However, long after the exercise, the delay in announcing who the cap fits, is not only questionable, but also ominous. This is because, going by the outcome of the result of the interview, the name of the overall best candidate, is already blowing in the air.
According to a news report published in Sun News Online, thesun.ng, on the 2nd of May 2025; "...A group, Association of Concerned Edo State indigenes, says it fears that there could be some underground dealings going on in the appointment of the new helmsman for the institution close over one week after the selection process was done, leaving everyone concerned waiting with bated breath for the announcement to be made..."
From the above suspicion raised by the Association of Concerned Edo State indigenes, it is very clear that, many other concerned and eminent people of Edo state origin, as well as non indigenes, are monitoring developments in the selection process with keen interest, as all eyes are on the panel tasked with the responsibility of selecting the Vice Chancellor.
This Ivory Tower, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, one of the foremost state owned University in Nigeria, has come a very long way. We must guide against any form of underground dealings, especially concerning the selection process of the Vice Chancellor of the University.
In those hay days of the university, the Law Faculty of AAU was recorded as the best in Nigeria, as the products of that Faculty were always topping the class in the Law school. Recently however, during the past administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki as the Governor of Edo State, the university suffered lots of neglect that almost brought the Institution to it's kneels; thankfully however, Governor Monday Okpebholo is giving the Institution a new lease of life as it is now receiving the attention due to it.
Now that a new Sheriff that values education and particularly, the legacy of Professor Folorunso Ambrose Alli, is in power, and he is trying to restructure the university to meet up with World class standards, the next best thing, is to appoint the best candidate from the shortlisted and interviewed, to pilot the affairs of the university, as merits should not in any way be compromised for anything. This does not deserve to be politicised, if really we are sincere about returning the past glory of the university.
If they mean well for the university, the Governing Council, should as a matter of urgency, make public the result of the said interview of the shortlisted candidates, to enable the visitor, Governor Monday Okpebholo do the needful, as all eyes are on them. However, it is already a known fact that the three shortlisted candidates are:
1. Professor Frederick Ugbesia Igene - from Irrua, Esan Central Local Government, Edo State. 1st POSITION
2. Professor Marshall Azeke - Esan South East Local Government, Edo State. 2nd POSITION.
3. Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, the present AAU Actg. VC - from Kogi State. 3rd POSITION.
Edo state people, and all well meaning people of Nigeria, have their eyes and ears wide open in anticipation of the announcement of the name of the next Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
