The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, area, received a final nail on its coffin today, Friday 18th April 2025, as seven Councilors and the Chairman of the local government area, formally defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The defection, where the Councilors were received into the APC, by the Leadership of the party in the Local Government, held at the APC Secretariat, in Irrua.

Giving their reason for defecting from the PDP, to the APC, the Councilors unanimously confessed that, the works and practical governance style of Senator Monday Okpebholo, has become an intimidating score sheet in less than 6 months of his administration; specifically, they emphasised on the repairs currently ongoing on the Benin-Auchi road, which the former administration did nothing about in eight years, but is now being put in shape by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The Local Government APC Chairman, Hon. Rawlings Ekeoba, who received the new entrants into the APC, thanked them for making a very germaine decision of joining the All Progressives Congress.

On his part, the Chairman, Esan Central Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyelenhimi Iyere, who recalled the several exclusions and physical attacks he received as a result of the hitherto supports he has been giving to the APC, due to the fact that, a gubernatorial candidate from Esan Central local government area, emerged to contest for the position of the governor of Edo state, pointed out that, at some point, he was denied salary for five months, but he was not moved by all their intimidations.

The Councilors that defected to the All Progressives Congress, along with the Chairman, include; Okpiahior Abhulimen, the Councilor representing Ward 1, Saturday Uzeidu, of Ward 2, George Washington Egbele, Ward 5, Solomon Onuwabhagbe, Ward 7,     Onoigboria, Ward 8 and Itute Edose, Ward 9.

With today's development, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is practically non-existent in Esan Central Local Government Area.
