Chief Okafi Erewele Burial Ceremony: A Gathering Of Who Is Who

Unlike the conventional Fridays to Sundays, days of burial ceremonies, where such ceremonies begin on Friday and terminates on Sunday thanksgiving, late  Chief Erewele's burial ceremony, started on Saturday, 4th January 2025, when the Service of Praise came up at the Christian Redeemed Church, Benoni, Benin city, Edo State; Pastored by Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu. 

The Traditional rites was held on Monday, 6th January, after the body was carried from Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital for laying in state in his compound in Irrua, while Wednesday, 8th January 2025, was the socials/entertainment of guests at Eguare Primary school playground, Irrua, the headquarters of Esan central local government Area. 

The following day, Thursday, 9th January 2025, the thanksgiving service was held at Cherubim and Seraphim Church, on Erewele Street, Irrua.

Very many eminent personalities from different walks of life, that came from far and near, to celebrate the life of Chief Okafi, made the burial ceremony of Chief Okafi Erewele, a unique burial ceremony of the decade.


The massive tent that was mounted for guests, was filled to its capacity; and the guests were served with assorted foods and drinks.

The Igbo traditional entertainers, were on ground to add colours to the event, even as Egbenuneghen Music Band, treated guests to different genre of music, including, Afrobeat, Funk and traditional music.

Guests present at the event, include, the executive Governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, a one time Edo state gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, the Edo state All Progressives Congress, APC, Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, Prince Tony Omoaghe, a political associate to late Chief Erewele, Chief Dr Arc. Mike Oziengbe Onolememen, Engr. Clifford Ordia, the immediate past Senator that represented Edo central Senatorial district, Chief Joe Edionwele, the immediate past member that represented Esan West/Esan Central/Igueben federal constituency at the National Assembly, Professor Reuben Efeidiyi, the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, ISTH, Barrister Emmanuel Agbale, a two time Commissioner in Edo State, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Iyere, the Chairman, Esan Central local government area, and Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror, a three time Member that represented Esan Central constituency in Edo state House of Assembly. 

Others include, the MD/CEO of Perfect Prints Ltd , Abuja Amos Edeaghe, Mr. Ruddy Iyoha, Chief Godwin Iwelomen, Mr. Fidelis Akhabie, aka Skye, Mr. Martins Ajayi, Chief Abudu Ugbesia, JP, an APC leader in Esan central local government area, High Chief Peter Ojemen, aka Don P, a business tycoon, and PDP Chieftain, High Chief Benson Odaman, High Chief Chris Ekeoba.

Mr. Peter Odianosen Iwelomen, the Publisher of Esan Magazine and the Correspondence Newspaper titles and his crew, were also present to cover the event.

The Chairman , Esan Central local government area, who on behalf of the people of Esan Central Local Government Area, prayed that God grant the families of Chief Okafi Erewele the fortitude to bear this loss, said; "As young politicians, we draw inspiration from the life and leadership of Chief Okafi Erewele, and we assure that his legacy will live on through us, with no gap in the service to our people.


Continuing, the Chairman, Esan Central local government area, who said, the commitment of Chief Okafi to our people, and his enduring impact will never be forgotten, also added that; "We take pride in his unwavering love for our community, Irrua, where he not only contributed to its development but also chose it as his final resting place".

Chief Erewele was a towering political figure whose contributions have left an indelible mark.

Chief Okafi's outstanding achievement and legacy, include a key role he played in the installation of five governors of Edo State; an accomplishment that stands as a testament to his vision, leadership, and influence. These are records that only true icons can set.

Chief Barrister Frank Okafi Erewele, is survived by a wife and eight Children. His Children, include; Mrs. Anehita Adekunle, Engr. Isikwemen Erewele, Mr. Osolease, Miss Ehis Amaze Erewele, Mr. Omoike Erewele, Mr. Ihimire Erewele, Mr. Osayi Erewele, Dr. Otibhor Rita, and Barr. Osedebamen Erewele.

The entire Management and Staff of Esan Magazine, pray for the repose of the soul of this great Icon that touched many lives in different ways, and also pray that God grant the familie the fortitude to bear this great loss.
