Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Wars do not solve human problems

        -LG Chairman

The Chairman, Esan Central Local Government, ECLG Area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Iyere Ainiyanlenhimi, today, Tuesday, 15th January 2025, during the celebration of this year's Armed Forces remembrance day, that held at the play field of Esan Central Local Government council, has advised that, we must by all means, and at all time avoid issues that led to wars in time past, as wars do not necessarily solve human problems, saying; "wars leave in their trail, sufferings, deprivations and tales of woes".

Speaking, the Chairman, who said; "...this occasion is one of sober reflection, as it  marks an opportunity to commemorate the epic deeds of our great heroes and heroines who had through their collective and individual efforts fought for the emancipation of our father land – Nigeria and the free world in general", added that, " We owe much gratitude to those of them still alive while praying for the repose of the souls lost in the wars they took part in".

The Chairman who mentioned that, several officers and men of the Nigerian Armed forces lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War of 1967 – 1970 and the various Peace-Keeping Operations around the world and of recent, those that lost their lives in the fight against insurgency in the North-East, South-East armed banditry in the South-West and South-South parts of Nigeria, paid the supreme prize for which we should all be grateful today.

Rt. Hon. Iyere called on all and sundry to endeavour to support the families of the fallen heroes, saying; "In the course of their military responsibilities, some were physically and mentally incapacitated. Others suffered social and psychological injuries. This has in fact subjected them and their families to untold hardship and consequent dependence on their relations and well-wishers.

"We cannot therefore fold our arms and allow these groups of Nigerians suffer in abject poverty through no fault of theirs"

The problem of food, shelter, health and the necessities of life are obviously confronting the family members and dependants that our fallen heroes have left behind, and their ability to surmount these problems is obvious. It is therefore clear that what these innocent but unfortunate individuals require from us is constant moral and financial support. The Chairman said.

He assured the legionnaires of the continuous support and assistance from Esan Central Local Government Council, and also appealed to everyone present to donate generously towards the upkeep of the dependants of the departed heroes and those incapacitated. The Chairman, on behalf of Esan Central local government council, donated the sum of #200,000, two hundred thousand naira to support the Legion.

The Chairman, Esan Central Local Government ex-service men and women, Esan Central chapter, Lt. Col. Edward Okaka, in his speech, read on his behalf by Mr. Benson Owalan, who pointed out that, these fearless and selflessness soldiers sacrificed their precious lives to ensure peace, unity and stability in our country, Africa and the world at large, added that, "the supreme sacrifice, is a demonstration of our loyalty, love and patriotism".
