The three days celebration of the life of late Madam Caroline Akunure Adagha, aka Sweet Mother, kicked off today Friday, 27th December 2024, with the procession of her body round the town in a motorcade, after which the funeral Mass held at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Ubiaja. Her body was afterwards interred in her compound at Oyomon quarters, Ubiaja.

The Reverend Father that officiated, the Funeral Mass, Fr. Leo Tobore, who is also the resident Priest, in his homily, said; "...our sister, our mother, our friend, madam Caroline Akunure, has gone back home. This world is not our home, we are only just passing through this world. Our sister, our mother and our friend, Madam Caroline Akunure Adagha no longer have to bother about the worries and material things of this world, because, she is now in the presence of the Lord".

The Reverend Father, who prayed for the repose of her soul, also prayed that the family and her loved ones she left behind, to have the fortitude to bear the loss. Quoting John 11:25, he said; "even though she is dead, she will live again because she knows and believes in Jesus Christ".

Hon. Lawrence Odiase, the eldest son, used the opportunity to appreciate the Parish Priest, all the church workers for their patience. He also appreciated the family friends and well-wishers that came from far and wide to be a part of the event.

Speaking about the life lived by his late mother, Hon. Odiase who described his mother as a fervent Christian, said his mother always say; "she will rather prefer to die, than to permit any situation to stop her from worshipping and serving God".

Reverend Father Yakubu Salami, from Benin, and Reverend Father Simon Osinde, were also present at the funeral Mass.

At her grave side, emotions ran high as  tears fell uncontrollably from the eyes of her children as the body of their mother was committed to mother earth.

Late Madam Caroline Akunure Adagha was 87 years old before she departed this world after a protracted illness. She is survived by seven children, including: Paulina Akhere Odiase, Lawrence Ebhohimhen Odiase (JP), Pastor Dorothy Iguisi, Godwin Nanakumo, FCA, Jeffrey Osagie Omon, Blessing Queensley Oseahimen Ibhade, and Esther Momodu in their order of seniority.
