   …Uhomoibhi tells Edo people

By: Oriaifoh Godwins

Ambassador Professor Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, OFR, the foremost Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aspirant for the upcoming Edo 2024 gubernatorial election has called on Edo people to be actively involved in politics as every government that comes to power emerged as result of the support such government received from the people. Therefore, he said, Edo People should come together to support the best aspirant after considering such aspirant's antecedents in terms of integrity and character as well as his ability in the management of people and resources.

The erudite Professor and PDP gubernatorial aspirant gave this advice today, Tuesday 6th December 2023 at a Press conference held at the Press centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo state Council,  Benin city, where he made it clear that,  governance is not rocket science as no one can give what he does not have.

Explaining his motive for aspiring to the number one position of Edo state Ambassador Uhomoibhi who enumerated all the positions he had occupied in the past said; “……. I intend to bring all my past experience in governance, my International connections and good will to bear on my state……”

“…… I have seen and know how things are done in the western world, I know what the disconnect is, and I am ready to bridge that missing link to ensure that Edo state becomes a model that other states in Nigeria will copy from….”

With respect to meeting the needs and what Edo people expects from from the Government, Ambassador Uhomoibhi said; ”… we are in a democratic dispensation which is the government of the people by the people and for the people…under my leadership, we cannot have a budget without first holding a town hall meeting to ascertain the peculiar needs of the people, especially bearing in mind that each Senatorial district have their peculiar needs; we will regularly consult  with the people”.

“In terms of security, for me, It will be the least of my worries as I already have a template to work with, which I will not like to disclose here; but the people of Edo state should be rest assured that for someone that stabilized Dafur-Sudan that was in turmoil when I was the under Secretary General of the United Nations, ensuring a peaceful Edo state is not going to be an uphill task and especially when I know that peaceful environment is the foundation to attracting foreign inventors to Edo state.

Ambassador Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, a retired first class Diplomat, who was the longest serving Permanent Secretary in the history of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is aspiring to contest for the position of Edo state governor, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
