His Royal Highness, The Ogirrua of Irrua and the Okaijesan of Esanland, Alhaji W.O Momodu II, JP, CON, has commended the indigenes and residents of Irrua kingdom for the prevalence of peace in the kingdom. He made this commendation while speaking on the influx of none natives of the kingdom into Irrua in recent time, as he expressed joy over the way and manner the kingdom is gradually becoming populated, especially the Eguare quarter.

Speaking, the Ogirrua said, unlike the negative occurrences that are often associated with growth and expansion of a locality, Irrua has been, and is still relatively peaceful, even as more people are attracted to come to live in Irrua kingdom.

Speaking on the preparation for this year’s New Yam festival in Irrua kingdom, the Ogirrua of Irrua Kingdom, and the Okaijesan of Esanland, said the New Yam festival predates history. He said; ‘…I grew up to meet the festival being celebrated in Irrua Kingdom. My grandfathers and my father celebrated it...’

Continuing, the Ogirrua said; ‘… When I ascended the throne, I made it clear to my people that though I am a Muslim, I will not frown at any religion, be it Christian, Muslim, or traditional worshipping; but I will never forget traditional practices such as the celebration of the New Yam festival…’

‘…if there is any food sacrificed/presented during traditional festivities, I will not stop anyone from partaking in it, nor frowns at anyone that abhors it; people should be free to practice what they believe in’. The Monarch said.

The celebration of the New Yam festival in Irrua Kingdom is a yearly event that was before now always held in October, but to enable the yams to be mature and dry enough, the celebration, according to the Monarch, was postponed to next month. In view of this development, this year’s New Yam festival in Irrua kingdom will come up on the 4th of November.

The Okaijesan also revealed that, after deliberating with his Palace Chiefs on it, the Palace Secretary will write a notice to all the communities in Irrua Kingdom to this effect, notifying them of the event.
