EDO GUBER 2024: ESAN OYEE….? BHA JIA GBAZILO…
By: Oriaifoh Godwins
With respect to the 2024 Edo governorship Election, it has become expedient for us as Esan people to engage our critical thinking faculty in ensuring that we get it, not just “RIGHT” but get it ‘Perfectly Right’.
Taking a cue from the last Presidential election, where the Northern elders, opinion leaders and stakeholders agreed that the North has had their opportunity to lead Nigeria, hence, they agreed that the South should be allowed to lead, so also, Edo Central central Senatorial district, is asking to be given the opportunity to occupy Osadebey Avenue come 2024, as Edo Central has not been in the equation of who leads Edo State for a very long time now.
*But, this is the issue….*
In Edo Central, we have the Okpebholo axis and the Agbazilo axis. The Okpebholo axis has had the opportunity to represent Esanland in Osadebey avenue, twice (when Prof. Ambrose Alli of blessed memory was there, and when another Prof, Osahermen Osunbor was there) though, the latter’s stay was truncated, as he was only there for 18 months. On the other hand, the Agbazilo has had the opportunity to occupy the position of the Senate when Senator Ugbesia was there for 8 years, and the Uromi axis has also enjoyed Ministerial position when the Late Political leader, Chief Aneni and Arc. Mike Onolemenmen were in the position for several years. Anyway, that is history.
Today, however, Okpebholo occupies the position of the Senate, and let’s not forget that in the last 8 years, Senator Clifford Ordia, from Okpebholo was the Senator that represented Edo Central for 8 years, yet, Senator Monday Okpebholo from same Senatorial district, Okpebholo, took over from Ordia.
In view of the foregoing facts, since Okpebholo axis of Edo central Senatorial district is currently occupying the position of the Senate, Esanland should all come together to support a credible candidate from Agbazilo axis, particularly a credible candidate from the Ewatto, Ewossa, Ewohimi and other areas in that axis that have never occupied any such elective positions (to represent Esanland) before; that way, no part of Esanland will feel ostracized or left out in the political scheme of things in Edo State.
As we prepare for Edo 2024 gubernatorial Election, Esan people of ‘good thoughts’ across all political parties must seriously think about this arrangement in deciding who to nominate and support.
